Claros: Modular Light
Claros is a bronze and acrylic modular light project designed and built for Stanford's Introduction to Design and Manufacturing class (ME 203).
Three modules connect to the light base via press-fit neodymium magnets along each face. The modules themselves are battery powered so they function independently and the lights can be shared and gifted to friends and family. However, it is only when all three modules connect that the blue LED is activated, changing the quality of the light and symbolizing the reunion of the module owners. Each module consists of a cast bronze base and a sandblasted acrylic top embedded with LEDs. The project was inspired by city lights in the Salt Lake Valley and was a personal experiment to "capture" light as a symbol of comfort.
